If you've never cooked rice as a side dish in the oven, give it a try. I use this method of making rice quite often. In the oven, the rice comes out tasty and crumbly, just like it came out of a Russian oven. There are several subtleties that will need to be observed. Everything is in order.

Prepare the rice. The ratio of rice and water (water) is 1:2, you can take a little less water. To do this, measure two glasses of rice into a deep bowl and fill it with very hot water, almost boiling water, stir, and let the rice stand in this water for 10-15 minutes. Then we start washing the rice. The water in it has not yet cooled down, it is hot, so we add cool water so that our hands do not get hot, and wash the rice. We don’t simply drain the water and replace it with clean water, but rather grind the rice with our hands and remove the top layer from it. The water becomes snow-white like milk, cloudy - this is the removal of excess gluten, which makes our rice not crumbly. Drain all the water from the rice.

Place a frying pan on the stove, pour oil into it and heat it up. When the oil is hot, pour the washed rice into it without water.

Stirring, fry the rice. It should lighten and become seemingly translucent, gathering into small lumps. Fry the rice for about 7 minutes, stirring.

The most delicious rice comes out with broth. If you don’t have ready-made broth, the easiest way is to dissolve a bouillon cube in hot water. It already contains salt, spices and dry herbs.

Place the fried rice in an even layer in a heat-resistant bowl and add broth at a ratio of 1:2. I had two cups of rice, which means 4 cups of water are required. Because my broth was already salted, I didn’t add salt, but if you cook rice in water, you definitely need to salt the water, or just sprinkle salt on top of the rice. Gently stir the rice with a spoon, knead the lumps so that the liquid moderately covers all the rice. Cover the pan with foil.

Place the rice in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for 35-40 minutes. When you remove the foil, you will see ready-made fluffy rice.

The rice is placed in an oven preheated to 160 degrees and cooked for 40 minutes until the water is completely absorbed. You need to stir from time to time. To add a piquant taste, you can add your favorite spices and herbs.

Combined method

The washed rice is placed in a thick-walled bowl. Fill with water so that it rises 2-3 cm above the rice. Salt is added to taste. Bring to a boil on the stove and cook for 10 minutes. Afterwards it is placed in the oven, preheated to 180 degrees. Prepares within 15 minutes.

Preparatory frying

The washed rice is lightly dried using a cardboard napkin. A little vegetable oil is poured into a hot frying pan and the rice is carefully poured into it. Stirring constantly, fry for 2-3 minutes. Then the rice is laid out in the prepared form and filled with cool salted water in a ratio of 1:2. Cook for 30 minutes until the water is completely absorbed.

Please note that the production time and the amount of water needed depends on the type of rice.

Polished white rice is cooked within 20 minutes after boiling. For one part of cereal you need 1.5 parts of water, broth or milk.

Steamed and brown rice does not require preparatory soaking. Prepares within 30 minutes. For one part of cereal, two parts of water are needed.

Before preparing dishes from wild rice with dense grains, it must be previously soaked in cool water for two to three hours. Cook the cereal for 50-60 minutes.

Rice of the Arbolio, Baldo, and Carnaoli species is not washed before cooking. It boils very quickly, so the dishes are brought to half-cookedness. As the rice cools, it absorbs all the water and becomes fully cooked.

  • cottage cheese 250 grams,

  • boiled rice 200 grams,

Preparation: Separate the whites from the yolks and beat until foamy, mix the rice with cottage cheese, semolina, sugar and yolks. Add the whipped whites into the resulting mixture and mix gently. Grease the baking dish with vegetable or butter. Place the resulting mixture into the mold. Place thin apple slices on top. Bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees. Sprinkle the finished casserole with ground cinnamon.

Rice with sweet peppers and tomatoes

  • rice 200 grams,
  • onion 200 grams,
  • sweet pepper 200 grams,
  • carrots 100 grams,
  • tomatoes 300 grams,
  • two cloves of garlic,
  • salt, sugar, reddish and dark pepper, bay leaf.

Preparation: cut the vegetables into strips, fry in vegetable oil until golden brown, combine with washed rice and spices, garlic, fry for two minutes. Pour in salted water or meat broth. Bake in the oven for the first 20 minutes at 200 degrees and 15 minutes at 170 degrees. Leave to cool in the oven. This dish can be served as a side dish for meat and fish.

How to cook rice on the stove

  2. Combine rinsed rice and 1 cup water in a rice cooker and add 1/2 teaspoon salt. If you use salted broth, you will be able to skip the salt.
  3. Turn on the rice cooker and set it to the desired time in accordance with the machine's operation manual.
  4. Leave the rice for 10-15 minutes after the rice cooker automatically turns off.
  5. Stir the rice and serve.
