Belgian waffles: recipe for an electric waffle iron with photo

Belgian waffles are a favorite dish of almost everyone with a sweet tooth. Travelers know that Belgium is famous for its own Flemish cuisine, which includes waffles. In the Belgian state, waffles are cookies made from watery dough with a specific pattern.

History of Belgian waffles

Waffles have been known in Belgium since the Middle Ages. Even then, a similar delicacy was served for breakfast, and from time to time it was eaten instead of dinner. Belgian waffles are delicious not only on their own, but also in combination with fruits and jams. With sweet additives they become an unsurpassed and unique dessert.

Waffles were so loved throughout Europe that they were subject to European laws. For example, Charles the 4th issued a decree according to which tents with a savory product could not be located closer than 4 meters from each other.

Since the 17th century, Belgian waffles have been divided into Liege and Brussels waffles. Option 1 is the sweetest. The product saw the light of day thanks to the Bishop of Liege. Under the bishop, they began to create dessert from bun dough, adding cinnamon to it. Now this recipe is considered the most popular in Belgium.

The Brussels version is the product that is now called Belgian waffles. It is consumed with icing, chocolate and fruit.

Waffles became widespread in 1958. At a global exhibition, Belgian Kleiman presented waffles with whipped cream to guests. The product sold out quickly. In 1962, the waffles were sent to an exhibition in Seattle. This is how the product gained worldwide fame.

In the six months following the exhibitions, Kleiman managed to sell half a million strawberry waffles. When the strawberries ran out, he began selling culinary products with pineapples and other fruits.

The very concept of “Belgian waffles” also arose thanks to Kleiman and his family. At first, the waffles were called Brussels waffles, but in countries far from Belgium the name of the town meant nothing to people, so it was decided to create a direct link to Belgium in the name of the waffles.

How to eat Belgian waffles

In the States, an analogue of Belgian waffles is even eaten with meat. In Belgium and Great Britain, waffles are served with cream, butter, vegetables and fruit. Jam, condensed milk, chocolate, ice cream and preserves are a good addition to waffles.

There are a huge number of dough options for this dish. The product is made fresh, sweet, salty and airy. Some types require advanced baking, while in others the waffles are more reminiscent of pancakes with cells in the center. Which waffles can be considered prepared according to the Belgian recipe?

With the advent of electric waffle irons, a similar dessert became even more widespread. By the way, in the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, also the Soviet Union - a state that existed from 1922 to 1991 in Europe and Asia), the first electronic waffle irons began to appear in 1964. Since that time, a huge number of modifications of these devices have been sold on the market. What does a housewife need to make Belgian waffles in an electric waffle iron? Recipe for the Best Belgian Waffles:

So let's get started.
Beat the egg with sugar, vanilla and salt with a mixer until fluffy.

Add sour cream. I recommend homemade, high fat content, because the whole secret is in it

We continue to beat. At this point, the main thing is not to over-beat the sour cream into the butter.

Once the mixture has become homogeneous, begin to add the sifted flour with baking powder a little at a time.

This is how our dough turned out :) Quite thick, but that’s how it should be.

Heat up the waffle iron and distribute the batter. Don't put too much, it will expand in volume very well. In terms of time, we focus on our waffle iron. Mine bakes in 5-7 minutes. During the process, a lot of steam can be released, so I advise you to lift the lid of the waffle iron a couple of times so that excess moisture comes out.

These are the waffles we came up with :)

Serve with your favorite toppings. I have chocolate sauce and fruit.

Soft Belgian waffles with sour cream in an electric waffle iron (Redmond multi-baker)

Now I’m making soft Belgian waffles with sour cream. At the same time, I’ll cook potatoes with grilled meat for dinner. The most popular waffles are Viennese and Belgian. And the Belgian ones are also divided into Liege (the hardest and sweetest with a caramel crust, to which special “pearl” sugar is added) and Brussels (airy and not so sweet). There is one indisputable rule for almost all waffles. Waffles are not stored, they are not prepared in advance! They are baked, topped with syrups, decorated with ice cream, berries, fruits, whipped cream, etc. and eat IMMEDIATELY! That’s why I prepare a small portion from 1 egg. All recipes for dishes prepared in the Redmond Multibaker are at this link. And the recipe for fluffy and soft yeast Belgian waffles is at this link.

Compound:

  • Eggs - 1 piece
  • Sugar - 50-80 g
  • Vanillin - 1 g
  • Sour cream (15%) – 100 g
  • Flour - 100 gr
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon

How to cook soft Belgian waffles with sour cream in a waffle iron Multi-baker Redmond, regular recipe

For Belgian waffle batter, mix egg and sugar.

Mix and beat the egg and sugar

Beat, add sour cream.

Add sour cream, beat

Beat, add flour, sifted with vanilla and baking powder.

Add flour sifted with vanilla and baking powder

The dough for Belgian waffles is ready. Leave it in the refrigerator for half an hour.

Turn on the multi-baker. The waffle iron is a simple device, no keys, just plug it in and look at the display. When, in addition to the reddish one, the greenish indicator lights up, you can use it. The panels have a non-stick coating, no need to lubricate them with anything. Place a full tablespoon of batter onto each wafer panel.

Place one or two spoons of dough into each panel

The photo shows that the dough is quite thick. Close Multibaker. Waffles are baked for 7-8 minutes.

Wafer panels are square. To make the waffles even and square, you need to spread more dough, but I find these picturesque “torn” edges very appetizing.

The first Belgian soft waffles are ready

If you have the same model, don’t be alarmed if the green indicator goes out during the baking process. It turns off when the temperature in the Multibaker decreases and lights up again as it heats up.

From this quantity of goods you will get 8-10 pieces of golden, fragrant Belgian waffles.

The photo shows how porous they are in the fault. Warm Belgian waffles perfectly absorb syrups or creams.

Warm waffles are very good with fresh or canned fruits and berries, honey, jam, sweet sauces and, of course, ice cream. I melted bitter chocolate with cream, poured this ganache over Belgian waffles and sprinkled with candied orange peel and sweet powder.

A wonderful colorful and divine tasty combination! While the waffles were still hot, I quickly changed the removable panel of the multi-baker and grilled potatoes and meat.
