Squid stewed with onions and carrots: step-by-step recipe
First you need to prepare everything you need to make this tasty and healthy dish. Components that will be useful:
- 2 squid carcasses;
- 2 carrots;
- a head of any onion;
- 2 huge spoons of vegetable oil;
- ½ teaspoon salt;
- 2 pinches of dark pepper;
- a few cloves of garlic.
Seafood preparation
So how to cook? Squid stewed with onions and carrots is recommended to be prepared only from new products. If the meat is frozen, it should be removed from the freezer in advance and left at room temperature. To remove ice from carcasses, you can place them under running cool water. Experts do not recommend defrosting squid using a microwave. This will greatly spoil their taste.
When the squids are defrosted, you need to pour boiling water over them and then place them in cool water. Now the carcasses can be cleaned of the narrow chitinous film. Thanks to this method, it will be removed quickly and without problems.
After cleaning the squid carcass, you need to cut it either into strips or into thin rings.
Manufacturing process
Onions should be peeled and washed. After this, the vegetable needs to be chopped into small cubes using a knife. Carrots should also be peeled and washed. It should be crushed using a large grater.
Place a frying pan on the fire and pour vegetable oil into it. You should also add carrots and onions here. Vegetables should be simmered over low heat until fully cooked, preferably with a tightly closed lid.
Finally, you need to add chopped squid carcasses, spices, garlic, previously peeled and passed through a press, and salt to the frying pan. After this, close the container with a lid and simmer its contents for another 3 minutes, stirring frequently. The original dish is ready.
Recipe with sour cream
You can vary your diet with an original and ordinary dish - clams with sour cream and carrots. This is prepared very quickly and simply. First you need to prepare the main ingredients. To prepare this dish, you will need:
- 600 g squid;
- 2 large carrots;
- 2 onions;
- 3 huge spoons of sour cream;
- vegetable oil;
- a bunch of parsley and dill;
- ground pepper, dark is ideal;
- salt;
- a few cloves of garlic.
Preparing the squid
In order for the clam stewed with onions and carrots to turn out tender, you need to cook it correctly. You should not defrost seafood in the microwave. It is best to get it out of the cold in advance. The product should defrost at room temperature. After this, the carcasses need to be cleaned of film. Carrots and onions also need to be cooked. Vegetables should be peeled, washed, and then chopped: carrots using a medium grater, and onions using a knife, cutting them into half rings.
Heat treatment
Pour vegetable oil into the frying pan and then place the container on the fire. You also need to put onions and carrots here. This frying will serve as the basis for the dish. It is recommended to simmer the vegetables under the lid until cooked. This will take no more than 10 minutes.
When the carrots and onions are ready, add the chopped squid carcasses into the frying pan, add spices and salt. To improve the taste, you can mix ground pepper with a seasoning such as coriander. Cover the container with a lid and simmer its contents for 3 minutes. After this, you need to add sour cream to the dish. The contents of the pan should be brought to a boil and simmer for another 3 minutes. Finally, add chopped garlic and herbs to the dish. The ingredients should be thoroughly mixed and then removed from the heat. If the finished dish seems a little dry, then during the stewing process you can add a little water, preferably warm, or more sour cream.
How to serve correctly
Squid stewed with onions and carrots should only be served hot. This dish goes well with neutral side dishes, for example, rice or boiled potatoes, mashed to a pasty state. It is recommended to generously pour each serving with sour cream sauce, purchased during the preparation of seafood with vegetables.
