Lingonberry jam with oranges

Lingonberry jam with oranges

To make a homemade delicious dessert you will need the freshest lingonberries, but if you don’t have any, you can use frozen ones. To enhance the orange flavor, it is recommended to add grated zest to the jam.

During the berry season, you can prepare a unique, but common dessert - jam from lingonberries and orange pulp. Thanks to the orange, the jam acquires tartness and additional citrus sourness. Berries and oranges make jam, which can be spread on bread, added to baked goods, or combined with meat dishes.

In the West, it is customary to drizzle this jam on the turkey on Thanksgiving Day. The combination of sweet and sour notes creates a pleasant taste palette. The mixture makes the dessert dense and richly reddish in color. Jam can be stored in jars and even frozen in the freezer.

  • 1 medium orange;
  • 300 g sugar;
  • 1 tbsp. spoon of fresh orange zest.

Manufacturing

To get more lingonberry-orange dessert, it is recommended to double the amount of ingredients. Beforehand, we sterilize glass jars using any convenient method. You can roll up the jars with metal lids or simply close them with screw caps.

  1. We wash the freshest berries under running water and place them in a colander to dry. Frozen lingonberries need to be thawed in advance.
  2. Peel the orange. Squeeze the juice from the fruit into a separate bowl.
  3. Pour orange juice into a thick-bottomed pan and add sugar. If there is not enough juice, you can add approximately 40 ml of water.

  6. When the sweet component is completely dissolved and the sweet dish boils, the berries will begin to explode.
  7. Cook the jam over low heat for about 8 minutes until it thickens. Remove from the stove.
  8. Grate the zest on the small blades of a grater. Add to the actually finished jam. Mix.
  9. After this, put the jam on low heat again. Cook for 2 minutes and turn off the stove. Pour the finished food into prepared jars, close the lids and roll up.

How to make lingonberry and orange jam

In winter, we lack vitamins. And that’s why I propose to prepare a very healthy and tasty jam from lingonberries and oranges.

It is not difficult to prepare. But I think the benefits from one spoon of this jam are quite great! And the taste comes out simply wonderful. And the main thing in this recipe is that you don’t need to boil the berries for a long time so that they lose all their beneficial characteristics.

How to prepare “Lingonberry and Orange Jam” step by step with photos at home

Let's prepare all the necessary ingredients: oranges, lingonberries and sugar. We wash the lingonberries with cool water and remove all the branches and spoiled fruits; otherwise the jam will acquire bitterness from low-quality berries. Now soak 1 kilogram of berries in 2 glasses of water and add 2 glasses of sugar to them. In this form, they must stand for at least 12 hours so that the berries give their own juice.

After the lingonberries have steeped and the sugar has dissolved, pour the liquid into the pan. Place the pan on the heat and add the remaining sugar (2 more cups) and bring to a boil. As soon as our syrup boils, reduce the heat and leave for another 30 minutes so that the excess liquid evaporates.

Let's deal with oranges (4 pieces). First, rinse them well with running water and scald with boiling water. Now cut the oranges into 2 parts and squeeze out the juice. You should get approximately 1 glass of juice.

Pour orange juice into our syrup, bring to a boil and simmer for 5-7 minutes.

Place half of the lingonberries in our syrup and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes, skimming off any foam that forms.

Place the remaining half of the berries sparingly in clean, sterilized jars. And fill them with hot syrup. Then we roll up the jars, turn them over and cover them with something warm to keep the heat longer. Once the jars have cooled, you can send them to a cold storage space. It is better to open this jam after a week so that the freshest berries are saturated with syrup.

I was pleased with the beginning of the recipe - “put everything through a meat grinder.”
Is it possible to clarify the recipe and write whether it is necessary to peel the apples and oranges, which seem to be unpeeled in the photo. But it’s not a bad idea, something like jam is bound to turn out

Lingonberries with orange: recipe without skin

If you want the jam to be not homogeneous, but with pieces of oranges, then this recipe is suitable for you. To make the dessert you will need:

  • 2 cups lingonberries;
  • 3 medium oranges;
  • 1.5 tbsp. Sahara.

Sort the berries and pour boiling water over them, peel the oranges and cut into small pieces. Stir these ingredients and place them in a saucepan. Place the pan on the fire and wait until the released juice begins to boil. Let it boil for 10 minutes, and then add sugar. At this step, you can add a little cinnamon if you wish. You should not put more than 3 tsp. spices given to us so as not to spoil the taste of the finished dessert.

Stir the jam and cook it for another 10 minutes. Continue to mash the berries with a wooden spoon from time to time. Remove the pan from the heat and let the jam cool. After it reaches room temperature, it can be poured into jars.

Lingonberry jam with peeled oranges

This jam comes out the most homogeneous and quite thick, approximately like thick sour cream. In addition, it is the most useful, because the peel of citrus fruits also contains many necessary substances. To make jam you need the following ingredients:

  • 1 kg of oranges (preferably thin-skinned);
  • 1 kg of lingonberries;
  • 1 kg of sugar (you can use less if you like the most sour tastes).

Sort the lingonberries, wash and dry. Stir the berries with sugar and wait until they begin to release juice. After this, put the berries with sugar on the fire. Divide the oranges with the peel into several parts and remove the bones. Pass the citruses through a meat grinder or puree in a blender.

After the berries have cooked for 15 minutes, add the orange mixture to them. Thoroughly stir all the ingredients and wait until the mixture boils. Let it simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. and remove from heat.

This dessert is not only very tasty, it is also indescribably necessary. In winter, when our body is so lacking in vitamins, tea with a couple of spoons of this orange-lingonberry jam will become a true vitamin bomb for the body.
