I make potatoes the same way, but I don’t boil them, mix raw potatoes with spices, garlic, salt and butter, let them sit for half an hour and put them in the oven at 250 degrees, 15 minutes, and you’re done.

How to Cook Idaho Potatoes

Potatoes are the favorite dish of the majority of the population. This is how our regular baked potatoes in America are called Idaho potatoes recipe in the oven.

How to Cook Idaho Potatoes in the Oven

The secret to the perfect Idaho potato recipe in the oven is the right variety of root vegetable. A starchier variety is suitable for baking. It will crisp up perfectly on the outside and remain crumbly on the inside.

Idaho in the oven cooks up in minutes. The dish can be served as a healthy side dish.

For 4 huge portions of Idaho in the oven you will need:

  • Young potatoes – 800 gr.
  • Oil (olive) – 50 ml.
  • Garlic – 2 cloves
  • Dill (fresh herbs) – 1 bunch
  • Paprika (ground) – 1 tbsp
  • Table salt – 1 teaspoon

The traditional Idaho recipe is cooked with the skin on. The tubers must be thoroughly washed using a hard brush. Cut each potato lengthwise into 8 pieces.

Place the cooked pieces into boiling water and cook them in salted water until half cooked. After 3-5 minutes, remove the potatoes with a slotted spoon and cool. This procedure allows you to reduce the baking time.

In a deep bowl, mix chopped garlic and dill, add salt, paprika and seasonings that you prefer. The taste of the finished dish depends on the spices you choose and their ratio. Add olive oil.

Add cooled, dried potatoes to the finished mixture and stir. The fragrant composition should cover every slice. Place the pieces on a baking sheet, skin side down, and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes at a temperature of 150-200 degrees.

Idaho fries are mixed with tomato or cream sauce.

Idaho Potatoes in a Slow Cooker

Modern kitchen assistants help reduce the preparation time of any dish. The use of a multicooker can make the potatoes softer and more tender.

For a quick Idaho recipe in a slow cooker you need:

  • Potatoes – 1 kg.
  • Olive oil – 70 ml.
  • Ketchup – 2 tbsp. spoons
  • Mustard – 1 tbsp. spoon
  • Garlic – 3 cloves
  • Dill – 1 small bunch
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • 30 gr. all spices (paprika, herbs de Provence or potato seasoning)

Peel the potatoes and cut into 6-8 wedges, depending on the size of the tuber. Dry the slices with a cardboard towel to remove excess water.

In a separate bowl, mix oil, ketchup, mustard, a mixture of herbs de Provence and a teaspoon of salt. Add chopped garlic and finely chopped dill. Stir and dip each potato wedge into the mixture.

Place the potatoes in the slow cooker and cook on baking mode for 25 minutes. When Idaho is properly prepared in a slow cooker, it comes out soft and crumbly.

This dish is best served as a side dish for meat and fish dishes. Italian tomato sauce with basil is mixed with homemade Idaho.

Idaho Potatoes

Idaho potatoes are a common dish in American cuisine. This is such an “aggressive” potato in the skin, flavored with sweet pepper, herbs and garlic, baked in the oven under a layer of cheese, very satisfying, slightly spicy and high in calories. “Idaho” fits perfectly into a male company as a beer snack.

Not everyone knows how to cook it correctly, although the recipe for Idaho potatoes is simple. Because we do not peel the potato skins, we need to take care of the quality of the root crop. I recommend choosing young potatoes with thin skins without blemishes. Use cheese and herbs according to your own taste, simply replace butter with olive oil or other vegetable oil, and you can add hot pepper or other fragrant seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 500g young potatoes
  • 150g cheese
  • 50g butter
  • 1 tsp ground paprika
  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1 tbsp. chopped dill
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1.5 liters of water

Manufacturing

Carefully wash the young potatoes to remove dirt and cut each one into 8 longitudinal pieces, first in half, and then into 2 more pieces.

Pour cool water over the potatoes and put on fire. After boiling, add a tablespoon of salt and cook the root vegetables for 4-5 minutes, no more. We need the potatoes to be half cooked.

Meanwhile, peel and press a few cloves of garlic through a press.

Grate semi-hard or hard cheese on a large grater.

Stir in crushed garlic, ground paprika and chopped dill (I use frozen).
Add softened butter and stir again.

After 4 minutes of cooking the potatoes, drain the water from the pan.

Add the prepared mixture of garlic, herbs, paprika and oil, cover the pan with a lid and shake so that the dressing is moderately distributed over the potato slices.

Place the potato pieces on a dry baking sheet, skin side down, and bake in an oven preheated to 190-200 degrees.

After 20 minutes, remove the baking sheet with potatoes from the oven; the slices should already be ready and lightly browned.

Spread the grated cheese onto the potato pieces, being careful not to get it on the baking sheet.

And put back in the oven for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

Serve Idaho potatoes as a main dish, a hearty side dish, or a beer snack.
