Mimosa with sprats
Mimosa with sprats
Now I’ll tell you how to create mimosa with sprats, otherwise it’s all pink salmon and salmon, you know.
The attentive reader will see that on the pages of this blog there was already a recipe for mimosa, but repetition is the mother of learning, and the development of making today’s version differs slightly.
Naturally, the appearance of the finished dish also differs. If in that version the salad came out light and shaggy, then this one is just right to cut with a knife and lay out like a cake:
- Sprats (1 jar)
- Testicles
- Onion
- Mayonnaise
- Potato
- Carrot
We boil hard-boiled eggs, potatoes and carrots in their uniforms. We clean everything:
Now let's chop it up. Potatoes, carrots and eggs (yolk and white separately) in three large graters, finely chop the onion, crush the sprats with a fork. You can throw a couple of fish as decoration and stick them later in the finished salad, like diving))):
Now we take a huge dish and a springform baking dish. We place one on top of the other and load the first layer with potatoes:
Lubricate with a thin layer of mayonnaise:
Next come the sprats:
Onion. Here I must honestly admit that since I don’t really like onions in salads, there is only half of it here. But, if you like it, you can eat the whole onion.
Ready. We put our layer cake in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes, while we set the table and call the eaters.

Mimosa salad is one of the favorite and famous salads. Naturally, there is a traditional recipe, but each cook has her own view on the composition! The salad contains butter, cheese, various herbs and canned fish. Depending on the canned fish, the taste of the salad will change.
Now I propose to prepare the Mimosa salad with sprats. They will give the salad a special smoked taste. Prepare this salad for any holiday or for dinner with your family. Determine the amount of mayonnaise yourself; you can lubricate any layer, or every other layer.
Let's prepare the products for use. Boil potatoes, carrots and eggs until tender.
Mash the sprats with a fork. It can be practically pureed, or it can be so that there are pieces left. Adding oil from sprats to fish is also a matter of taste. I don't use oil.
Finely chop the onion, squeeze out lemon juice, add a pinch of sugar and mix well. Leave for 10-15 minutes.
Peel the potatoes and carrots and grate them on a large grater.
Grate the apple. Divide the eggs into whites and yolks, grate the whites on a large grater.
Now we are assembling the salad. The first layer is potatoes. Add a little mayonnaise.
2nd layer – sprats. Mayonnaise is not needed; sprats contain enough oil.
3rd layer – onion and a little mayonnaise.
4th layer – carrots and mayonnaise.
5th layer – apple and mayonnaise.
6th layer – egg whites and mayonnaise.
Grate the yolks on a small grater and sprinkle the salad on top.
We will decorate according to your own taste. “Mimosa” salad with sprats is ready! It is best to cool slightly in the refrigerator before serving.

You've probably tried at least once to make Mimosa salad with canned saury, pink salmon or sardine. I would like to suggest that you try repeating this recipe with sprats, a cheap and very successful option.
For a formal table, Mimosa salad with sprats can be served in portions in small glasses or bowls so that all layers of the salad can be seen. To assemble the salad, you can also use a springform cake pan or assemble the dish in a salad bowl.
Let's start making Mimosa salad with sprats by preparing the ingredients: boil the eggs, potatoes and carrots in advance. Cool and clean them.
Grate the peeled carrots and potatoes on a large grater.
Divide the boiled eggs into whites and yolks.
Peel the onions and finely chop them. To prevent the onion from becoming bitter, it must be doused with boiling water. You can also pickle onions by adding a couple of tablespoons of 6% vinegar, half a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar to boiling water (in this case, leave the onions to marinate for 15 minutes).
Let's start assembling. We will coat the layers of salad with mayonnaise, but not all of them, because sprats are quite a fatty and nutritious fish.
Lay out Mimosa salad with sprats in layers in the following order:
1. Boiled potatoes, grated on a large grater.
2. Sprats, crushed with a fork with a small amount of sprat oil.
3. Finely chopped onions (marinated in vinegar if desired).
4. Layer of mayonnaise.
5. Boiled carrots, grated on a large grater.
6. Egg whites, grated on a large grater.
7. Layer of mayonnaise.
8. Decorate the salad with herbs and grated egg yolks on a small grater.
You can decorate the salad as desired, as your imagination allows. In the traditional version, the trunks and leaves of the Mimosa flower are laid out from green onions and dill. Then we lay out the yolk grated on a small grater in small piles, forming Mimosa inflorescences.

- Mayonnaise for dressing
How to prepare Mimosa salad
- Open the sprats, take out the contents (fish with oil) onto a wide plate or into a salad bowl and mash with a fork into a puree.

Memo on cooking time for vegetables: potatoes - 20 minutes, carrots - 30 minutes.
Sprinkle the salad with crumbs of egg yolks on top and, if desired, you can decorate it with any sprig of herbs (dill, parsley, cilantro).
If you put the Mimosa salad with sprats in the refrigerator before guests arrive, then all the layers in it will be better soaked.
All I have to do is wish you a bon appetit and a good mood, cook with love!
