Pasta with tuna

Historically, tuna is not particularly popular here - it is not found here and is rarely found in stores. However, canned tuna is available in virtually any store. And a small jar of fish fillet in oil can become the basis of a delicious dish - tuna pasta is prepared simply and quickly, even breakfast can be prepared in less than half an hour.

Canned tuna is similar in appearance and density to flaky chicken fillet, with absolutely no noticeable bones. You always need to look at the labeling - you should take tuna in pieces, and not “for salad” - small pieces, possibly leftovers from tuna processing. In general, this canned fillet makes a good pizza with tuna - the taste is incredible, especially in combination with fresh tomatoes.

Black tuna meat is placed along the edges of the carcass, used for cheap food for dogs and cats, and we buy canned food made from snow-white meat - it is placed along the back of the fish. In general, often careless producers can can anything, and not even tuna at all. But, if a piece of fish fillet in a jar has a dense structure and is divided into thick layers, it is probably tuna.

Pasta with tuna and tomatoes is practically a standard breakfast dish. A small jar of tuna fillet, a few tomatoes and sprigs of greenish basil - that’s basically all. Or, if you have time, you can use canned tuna, combined with vegetables, herbs and other ingredients, to make a tasty tuna salad. And absolutely, with canned tuna you can prepare a huge number of different salads; the fish can be mixed with almost any vegetables.

Pasta with tuna and tomatoes is an unusual combination of thick sauce made from the freshest tomato puree and tuna fillet, with the addition of greenish basil and spices. The sauce is prepared in the best olive oil, flavored with garlic.

Pasta can be made from any type of pasta, although I prefer long pasta. Thick sauces - Bolognese or carbonare sauce mix very well with long pasta. But, at your choice, you can cook spaghetti with tuna or small pasta with tuna - fusilli, penne, etc. And also, for the sauce it is better to use the freshest tomatoes rather than canned pulp.

Ingredients for tuna pasta

  • Pasta (fettuccine, spaghetti) 160 g
  • Tuna in oil (150-160 g) 1 can
  • Large ripe tomatoes 2 pcs.
  • Onion 1 piece

Step-by-step recipe with photos

Place the pasta in a saucepan with plenty of bubbling, salted water.

Bring the water to a boil again and cook over high (or moderate) heat

8 minutes (or as much time as indicated on the package).
While the water is boiling and the pasta is cooking, prepare the tomato sauce with tuna and basil .
Peel the onion and chop finely.
Peel the garlic and chop finely.
Wash the tomatoes, make cross-shaped cuts on them, put them in boiling water for 2 minutes and remove the skins.
Cut the tomatoes into large cubes.
Heat olive (or sunflower) oil in a frying pan.
Add peperoncino peppers to the oil.
Add onion, lightly salt and pepper.
Fry the onion, stirring, until slightly golden (do not fry too much).

Add garlic and fry

1 moment.
Remove the pepper from the pan and throw it away (it has already given a little heat and the dish will be slightly spicy, but if someone likes the hottest or very spicy dishes, you can throw in the pepper and remove it in the middle or closer to the end of cooking).
Add tomatoes to the onions and garlic, add a little more salt (salt should be in moderation so as not to oversalt the sauce), stir and simmer, stirring occasionally, until excess moisture has evaporated.
When the moisture has evaporated and the sauce begins to thicken, add 1 tablespoon of good tomato sauce.

Advice.
If desired, you can omit the tomato sauce and add a pinch of sugar instead, to taste. Also, if you are preparing the sauce not from new, but from canned tomatoes, in this case, there is absolutely no need to add tomato sauce.

Add olives without water to the sauce (if desired, olives can be cut into rings), canned tuna (also without water) and basil leaves.
Stir the sauce and, if necessary, add salt, pepper or a pinch of sugar to taste.

Place the finished pasta in a colander.

Advice. You can save some of the water in which the pasta was cooked. If necessary, you can add a little pasta broth to the tomato sauce if you want to make it less thick.

Combine the pasta with tomato sauce and tuna, mix carefully and serve immediately, garnishing with basil.

Bon appetit!
