Homemade yeast pie with poppy seeds - fluffy, soft, fragrant. Besides the fact that this pie is very tasty, thanks to its unusual shape, it becomes even more unusual and very beautiful. Such a pie can be prepared for a festive table and served to guests.

To make yeast dough, all ingredients must be warm. Beat the egg with sugar and salt.

Add melted butter, pour in milk, stir.

Combine flour and yeast, mix.

Pour the milk mixture into the flour and knead the dough.

Knead the dough well so that it is homogeneous, soft and elastic. Cover the bowl with the dough with a clean towel and place it in a warm place to rise.

After 1 hour, knead the risen dough, cover again and place in a warm space for another 30 minutes. The dough should increase in volume again.

Divide the finished dough into three parts.

Grease a baking tray with vegetable oil. Roll out part of the dough into a circle according to the size of the baking sheet, place a layer of poppy seeds on top, not reaching 2-2.5 cm from the edge of the dough.

Roll out the second part of the dough, place it on top of the poppy inside, place the 2nd layer of poppy inside on it and cover with the third layer of dough. Lightly press the edges of the 3 layers of dough together.

Divide the surface of the pie into 16 parts. It is convenient to create this with a cake separator or just a knife approximately.

Using a knife, create slits all the way through, leaving the middle of the pie intact. Rotate the cut parts twice around their own axis. Turn the adjacent strips in the opposite direction (see photo).

Fold all 16 cuts in this way and fasten their edges together. Beat the egg and brush over the yeast cake. Let the pie rise for 20-25 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and bake the poppy seed pie for 25-30 minutes until a nice golden color.

Carefully transfer the finished pie onto a wire rack and cool. Fluffy, savory, sweet yeast pie with poppy seeds is ready.

Ingredients: (for two pies)

  • Milk – 200 gr
  • Yeast - 50 g compressed (or 2-3 teaspoons dry)
  • Sour cream – 150 gr
  • Eggs - 4 pieces

  • Vanillin – 2 sachets (2 grams)
  • Flour - approximately 700-800 g

How to make a delicious and wonderful poppy seed pie from rich yeast dough in the oven

For the inside of the poppy seed cake, pour boiling water over the poppy seeds and leave for an hour. The boiling water should cover the grains by 2-3 fingers. ( At the moment, I will completely outline the process of making the inside, but the dough and filling can be created in parallel - the poppy seed swells, the dough rises, later the dough rises, the poppy cools, in general, you’ll figure it out). After an hour, the poppy seed will swell, strain it.

Bring milk to a boil and add poppy seeds to it. Boil over low heat for 10 minutes, leave to cool.

To avoid repetitions, I line a colander with a layer of gauze, lay out the poppy seeds and strain until dry. Grind the poppy seeds in a mortar (grind in a coffee grinder or blender). The trail poppy will become lighter. Add sugar or honey or both. Test and adjust to taste. I added three tablespoons of sugar and one of honey. Beat the egg white and add to the poppy seeds.

Roll out two round pieces for the bottom and top, place approximately half of the inside on one of them. If the pie is large, then it is better to immediately cover the baking sheet with baking paper, greased with oil, and work on it.

Connect the twisted segments. Whisk the yolk with a tablespoon of water and brush half of the acquired consistency onto the top of the pie. The poppy seed cake can be sprinkled with sugar or a mixture of cinnamon sugar.

While the cake is rising, preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Bake the poppy seed cake until beautifully golden brown, 40-50 minutes. The smell of rich yeast baked goods is completely unearthly.
