Tincture of rose petals: useful characteristics and recipes for making the drink

Rose petal tincture is an elite drink that can be made at home. The name of the drink makes you think about how pleasant it would be to drink such a wine in a warm, friendly company. But preparing the tincture is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. Therefore, it is important to study all the intricacies of making the drink and follow the instructions correctly.

Individual preparation of ingredients

Preparing a tincture from purchased roses is not only not recommended, but also prohibited. After all, store-bought raw materials are treated with various pesticides, which will certainly end up in the drink and even alcohol will not be able to neutralize them.

Rosehip flowers are ideal for making tinctures.

It is best to use rosehip flowers for making homemade wine. There are a huge number of species of this shrub, but the most common are wrinkled rosehip and tea rose. These particular flowers are best suited for making an elite homemade drink.

It is better to collect flowers in the first half of June. The greatest amount of smell in them is concentrated in the morning. Therefore, early morning is a good time to collect raw materials.

But picking flowers after rain is not recommended. Firstly, they contain a lot of water. Secondly, the precipitation may not be the most pure. For tinctures, clean and ideally dried petals are needed, but any recipe has its own characteristics that are worth paying attention to.

Regarding the alcohol base. It is best to take vodka or alcohol without any additives. But it must be a high-quality product purchased from a reputable store. Otherwise, the healing tincture can turn into poison.

Tincture "Regular"

This recipe can be called the most common, so it is also suitable for beginners. It is prepared with vodka using dried plants.

The proportions for the production of tincture are as follows:

  1. Rose petals – 100 gr.
  2. Vodka – 1 liter.
  3. Sugar – 2 tbsp. l.

To make a tincture according to the usual recipe, you need to take dried rose petals.

Sugar is painstakingly dissolved in vodka, rose petals are added and stored in a dark, cold room for a month. The tincture has a sweetish taste, but if desired, it can be turned into a liqueur by adding twice as much sugar. If the strength of the drink does not suit you, then it can be adjusted by adding alcohol or water to the finished product.

Liqueur "Sauternes Rose"

This drink is one of the most complex.

And it’s not about the manufacturing technology, but about the components.

  1. Vodka – 250 ml.
  2. Sauternes – 500 ml.
  3. Dried rose petals – 25 g.
  4. Syrup made from sugar and water in equal proportions - 200 ml.

Petals, vodka and Sauternes are combined in a selected container, covered with a lid and stored in a cold space for 5 days. Later, the tincture is filtered through a sieve or cheesecloth, and sweet syrup is added to taste.

The liquor is bottled and put away for 21 days. After this time, the drink will acquire a catchy taste and smell of roses. It is best to drink it slightly chilled from small glasses.

For the most complex recipe you will need Sauternes wine.

Persian rose liqueur

In Persia, since ancient times, this recipe has been passed down from generation to generation. In our country there are not so few connoisseurs of the drink, since the aging of the liqueur continues for at least a year.

To make rose liqueur you need the following:

  1. Roses – 30 pieces.
  2. Sugar – 700 g.
  3. Water – 500 ml.
  4. Alcohol – 1 l.

Place petals from 20 roses in a vessel, fill with alcohol and place in a cold room for a month. Once a week, the vessel must be opened and the roses gently stirred.

The remaining roses (petals) must be boiled. To do this, put sugar in a saucepan along with them, add water, cover with a lid and cook over low heat after boiling for about an hour. The purchased syrup is cooled, filtered and stored in a cold space.

After a month, both waters are combined, the resulting consistency is allowed to settle for 12 hours and poured into bottles. The longer the liqueur sits, the better. But 1 year is considered good aging.

Rose petal liqueur with raspberries

It is easy to prepare this liqueur at home. But, it is worth keeping in mind that in this drink the smell of rose will not be “overshadowed” by the smell of raspberries.

Rose petals are combined with raspberries, and then the mixture is poured with alcohol.

But it can be used not only in its pure form, but also for making cocktails:

  1. Rose petals – 25 g.
  2. Vodka – 750 ml.
  3. Raspberries – 250 ml.
  4. Syrup – 200 ml.
  5. Orange zest – 1 pc.

Combine rose petals, vodka, zest and raspberries in a large jar. Mix everything and put in a cold space for 4 days. Later, the liquor is filtered and bottled. The shelf life of this drink is 1 year, but it is best to consume it as food no earlier than 2 weeks from the date of production.

Rose tincture with cinnamon

This drink is prepared with vodka, honey and cinnamon.

It turns out less sweet than liqueur, but not the least tasty:

  1. 4 handfuls of rose petals.
  2. 500 ml alcohol.
  3. 250 ml vodka.
  4. 1 tsp. cinnamon.
  5. 70 g sugar.
  6. 500 ml water.
  7. 2 tbsp. l. honey

Dried rose petals are combined with 1/3 of sugar and vodka. Add cinnamon, honey and alcohol. The jar is closed and stored in a cold space for 10-14 days. After this, add the remaining sugar mixed in water to the tincture, wait another 10 days and filter.

The filtered drink is bottled and left to infuse for 3 months. The shelf life of the tincture is 1 year. It must be consumed chilled in small portions.

Rose petal tincture will get a spicy taste if you add cinnamon to it.

Fundamentally. At the first stage of settling, it is necessary to stir the liquor once a day.

Rose tinctures and liqueurs - ethereal ecstasy

The purpose of a rose is unique and its life is fleeting - it exists to attract the attention of the weaker sex with its seductive scent and prominent color. After this, the smell of the flower subsides and it gradually fades. It’s great that we, who know the secrets of “au de vie,” know how to give plants a second life. Is not it?

First of all, purchased roses are not suitable for making homemade alcoholic beverages, because they are sprayed with pesticides and other agrochemicals. No, we need flowers from an ecologically clean area, grown far from the roads. Any representatives of the Rosehip genus are suitable, of which there are more than 350 officially registered and more than 3000 not assessed species. In their own gardens, homeowners most often grow wrinkled rose hips (Rosa rugosa) and the so-called tea rose (Rosa odorata) - they suit us extremely well.

It is better to collect flowers at the beginning of June, in the morning, before the sun “stretches” all the smells out of them. Do not pick roses the next day after it rains. If you have read the article about flower tinctures, then you should already know that it is better to use dried petals to make them. The same article also says how to actually dry them. But rose corollas, even when fresh, have an extremely powerful scent, which is why some recipes call for fresh petals rather than dried ones. Pay attention to this!

Liqueur "Sauternes Rose"

In the last article, I told you about the unusual dessert wine Sauternes, which is prepared in Bordeaux. So, you can use it to make a cool, fragrant, very, very summer drink with the addition of rose petals, which blend incredibly well with the fruity character of the wine. Sauternes, as you understand, cost incredible amounts of money, but for similar home-made drinks you can use the most ordinary examples, for example, a simple Chateau Liot 2009 (approximately 750 rubles/0.75 l) or Petit Guiraud 2012 (approximately 800 rubles/0, 75l). It still remains to be tested. Sauternes, obviously, can be replaced with other, less premium dessert wines.

  • 500 ml Sauternes (approximately 15% alcohol)
  • 250 ml vodka or alcohol 40-50%
  • 25 g dried rose petals (approximately a half-liter jar)
  • 200-250 ml ordinary syrup

Combine Sauternes, vodka and rose petals in a suitable sized jar, stir well. Close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cool place for 3 to 5 days, until the tincture acquires a clear taste and smell of rose. Strain the tincture through a sieve or several layers of gauze, do not squeeze out the solids. If necessary, filter through cotton wool or coffee filters. Add sweet syrup to taste, made from equal parts water and sugar. Pour the finished liqueur into unstained bottles and let it rest for 2-3 weeks. Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled in small glasses. In the summer, you can use Aperol Spritz to make cocktails.

Persian rose liqueur

Recipe from the book “Folk Wines, Cordials and Brandies How to Make Them”, Jagendorf, MA, 1963. According to the creator, this recipe was given to him by the owner of the house where he was staying in Zahedan, Persia (southeast Iran). The creator advises preparing the liqueur at the beginning of June (but you should take into account the hottest Persian climate).

  • 20-30 fragrant roses
  • 700 ml sugar (by size)
  • 500 ml water
  • 0.9-1 l of neutral alcohol

Take petals from 10-20 fragrant roses and place them in a suitable sized jar. Pour alcohol over the petals, close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cold place for a month, remembering to stir the contents of the jar 1-2 times a week. Mix sugar, water and 10 more rose petals in a saucepan, cover with a lid and bring to a boil, and then simmer over low heat for about 1 hour. Strain the syrup, cool, strain the tincture. Mix both waters, filter as necessary, let steep for another 12 hours, and then pour into clean bottles. Store in a dark, cool place for up to 1 year. Excerpt is welcome.

Rose petal liqueur with raspberries

A wonderful ethereal fruit liqueur in which, surprisingly, the rose remains in the background, giving way to the catchy raspberry. An amazing ingredient for making refreshing cocktails. Here, by the way, is one of them: 2 parts liqueur, 1 part sour mix, 4 parts soda, lemon and raspberries for decoration, combine in a shaker (only sour mix and liqueur, add soda into the glass).

  • 750 ml vodka or alcohol 40-50%
  • 25 g dried rose petals (approximately a half-liter jar)
  • 250 ml fresh raspberries (by size)
  • zest of 1 tangerine (can be replaced with orange)
  • 100-250 ml ordinary syrup

In a suitable sized jar, combine water, rose petals, raspberries and tangerine/orange zest and mix thoroughly. Close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cool place for 3 to 5 days. When the liquid acquires a powerful scent and taste of rose, the tincture can be poured through a sieve or several layers of gauze without squeezing out the solids. If necessary, the liquid can be filtered through cotton wool or coffee filters. Add regular sweet syrup to taste and pour the finished drink into clean bottles. Store in a dark, cool place for up to 1 year. Leave for a short 2 weeks before use.

Rose tincture with cinnamon

An ordinary, unique and extremely fragrant tincture. Not as sweet and refined as the above-mentioned liqueurs, but that is why it is even more presentable for a real master of moonshine.

  • 4 handfuls of rose petals
  • 250 ml vodka
  • 500 ml alcohol 95%
  • 65 g sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 500 ml unstained water

Mix dry rose petals with 20 g of sugar and vodka in a suitable sized jar. Add alcohol and cinnamon, then close the jar tightly and leave in a dark, cool place for up to 10 days. Shake the jar slightly every day. Dissolve the remaining sugar in water and add to the tincture. Wait another 10 days, strain, do not squeeze. Filter as necessary, pour into clean bottles and leave to rest in a dark place for at least 3 months. The tincture should be drunk from small glasses, slightly chilled. Store for no more than 1 year.

Healing liqueur “Pink Nocino”

Inspired by the famous Nocino - an Italian liqueur made from green walnuts, which are usually harvested around the 20th of June. Interestingly, in Italy, liqueurs made from rose petals are not in the least demand. The hybrid drink has taken root in Poland, where it is intensively used to treat stomach disorders - just drink 30-50 ml of liqueur. Once again, this is not a drink for heavy libations; you need to drink it in small doses and only in suitable forms.

  • 2 handfuls of rose petals
  • 20-25 green walnuts
  • 300 g sugar
  • 300 ml alcohol
  • 300 ml water
  • 2-3 cm cinnamon bark
  • zest of 1 lemon

Wash the nuts, cut them in half or pierce them in several places with an awl, and then place them in a jar of a suitable size. Add syrup made from equal parts water and sugar, finely grated lemon zest, cinnamon and rose petals. Pour in alcohol, close the jar tightly and leave in a sunny place for 40-60 days. The contents must be stirred from time to time. After the allotted time has passed, strain the liqueur through several layers of gauze, filter through cotton wool or coffee filters and pour into dark glass bottles. Store in a cool place. Leave for at least 3 months before use.

Making a vodka tincture of rose petals

Rose is almost everyone's favorite flower, but not everyone understands that it has a tonic, refreshing and anti-inflammatory effect. There is a lot of talk about the necessary properties of this flower, because the petals of the plant have been popular for a long time. In addition to the fact that they are widely used in cosmetology and medicine, they were able to occupy their venerable space in cooking. Jam is made from its petals, and sometimes a tincture is made from rose petals.

Wonderful drink

To make a tea rose petal drink, use freshly picked petals without dark spots. High-quality vodka or alcohol will also come in handy. Preparing a tincture from rose petals is simple and quick, but the end result is a savory drink with a gentle, pleasant aroma.

We will need:

  • Vodka – 500 gr.
  • Flower petals – 50 gr.
  • Sugar – 100 gr.
  • Water – 80 ml.
  • Citric acid – 3 g.

Manufacturing:

We prepare the petals: we wash them well and remove the bad ones. Grind them with a blender or meat grinder.

Add sugar, citric acid and water. Mix everything.

It is best to take spring water, since due to low quality water, the drink quickly loses its own smell.

Place the finished petal mass in a separate container, fill it with alcohol and mix.

When making the drink, you can add both vodka and alcohol. A tincture made with alcohol will also have the highest taste.

Rose petal tincture

We tightly seal the container with a lid and place it for two weeks in a place without sunlight. You need to shake it once every three days.

Filter the finished tincture of rose petals and squeeze out the pulp. We won't need it.

Add sweet sand. Cover well and keep in the refrigerator for about 10 days to improve taste.

Again we filter the drink prepared at home.

A purchased vodka drink can be stored for a long time and yet the taste will not become worse, and the smell will only improve. The alcohol tincture will be a beautiful decoration for any holiday table and will please the guests who come. From the recipe you learned how to create a tasty drink.

Homemade cognac, liqueur and tincture of British rose petals

3 recipes for wonderful, generous drinks made from rose petals. The result is worth experiencing - the alcoholic drinks are completely unique. As for the initial raw materials, rose lovers have a surplus of it. Practical, no matter how economical, vodka is suitable as a base, because the tissues (the structure of the tissues of living organisms is studied by the science of histology) of the petals absorb fusel oils and other sources of inappropriate taste and aroma.

Homemade alcohol from British roses

There are a huge number of types of garden roses. But for making really cool drinks, a group of roses called English bush roses is recommended. They differ in the unique shape of the flower, but for the production of homemade alcohol they have two unsurpassed advantages. The flower is densely double, some species have more than two hundred petals - which means there is enough raw material and still remains for garden decoration. And, most importantly, this particular group is distinguished by cool scents that combine notes of various flowers and fruits, often exotic and extremely rich. The varieties 'Brother Cadfael' and 'Charlotte' have a powerful and tart scent of rose oil - more powerful than that of tea roses. 'Darsey Bussels' and 'Jude de Obscure' - rich fruity scent. 'Mary Rose' – honey-almond scent. 'Princess Alexandra of Kent' – lemon scent with notes of black currant. 'Summer Song' is an intense scent with notes of tea, chrysanthemum and banana. 'Tea Clipper' – tea-fruity-myrtle scent. 'Wolwerton Old Hall' – spicy scent of myrtle, anise and tarragon. 'The Generous Gardener' is scented with fragrant oil and myrtle, 'The Ingenious Mr Fairchild' is rose oil with tones of strawberry, peach and mint. This ensures a different and enchanting outcome, and homemade alcoholic creativity becomes even more exciting.

The generous and most delicious tinctures are obtained from the petals of Old English roses. Don't waste your time and alcohol on mummies made from sales bouquets

Which rose petals can be used to make homemade cognac and liqueur?

Roses, when they bloom, tend to shed their petals and there is a desire to collect them specifically at this moment, “so that the goodness does not go to waste.” This is a mistake - the most catchy and powerful scent is produced only by flowers that have reached full bloom and in dry, warm weather. Therefore, as a raw material, it makes sense to collect petals from recently blossomed species, in the first half of the day, but not when there is dew. British roses have a lot of petals, and this will not harm the flower garden. In addition, it makes sense to collect petals in anticipation of impending bad weather.

It is strictly not recommended to use rose petals from purchased bouquets. Cut roses undergo multiple chemical treatments to prevent pests and diseases and for optimal transportation. As they say, “Don’t drink, Ivanushka, you’ll become a little goat!”...

Tincture of rose petals “William Shakespeare”

This recipe with photos was kindly provided for the website alcogol-doma.ru by the capital’s collector and breeder Gennady Litavrin. And although some aesthetes moaned that David Austin’s nursery bred these roses for the wrong reason, exalted fans of Gennady’s work overwhelmed them with numbers) So, the recipe from Gennady Litavrin:

“Fill a glass jar tightly with the blackest and most fragrant rose petals. Pour vodka. Close the lid. Place in a black space for 10-14 days. The rose petals should be completely discolored, and the drink should take on the rich black color of cognac. Pour the finished tincture into a bottle, allowing only a light squeeze with a spoon, otherwise the drink will become bitter. Filter the resulting tincture. Then add water and sugar to taste and until the desired strength is achieved. I do 25-30 degrees. You can create several cans, like bottles. I recommend!"

Rose and tincture “William Shakespeare”. Both are wonderful.

We draw your attention to two points. IMPORTANT! Almost all recipes on the Internet (obviously copied from each other without checking the result) recommend squeezing the petals. This should not be allowed; the tincture must be carefully drained so that the taste does not deteriorate.

As varieties for such a tincture, we can recommend 'Darsey Bussels', 'Falstaff', 'Fisherman's Friends' and, of course, 'William Shakespeare'.

Homemade cognac from British rose petals “50 stars”

In my search for something to make from rose petals, the best find was cognac made from the petals of yellow and pink varieties of Old English roses. The appearance is not as exotic as that of the William Shakespeare tincture. But the generous play of color and no less generous smell make this drink, which is usually made, exceptional.

Making homemade cognac “50 stars” from rose petals.
For production, a 2 liter glass container with a wide larynx and a ground-in lid and 1 liter of vodka were used. The petals were poured into the jar without tamping so much that the vodka completely covered them. Before pouring, 5-6 pieces of refined sugar were added. This amount of sugar does not give sweetness, but emphasizes the taste. It is better to use cane sugar. The infusion was infused for 7-10 days, after which the tincture was carefully drained (without squeezing! just letting it drain) and a second one was made with fresh petals. After being poured twice, the cognac had the appropriate color and subtle notes of taste and smell. So “50 stars” is not an exaggeration.

On the right is ready-made cognac made from Old English rose petals. On the left is a cream liqueur prepared using its base.

Creamy rose petal liqueur “Lady's Ecstasy”

For those who love cream liqueurs, this is an opportunity to quickly prepare a wonderful sample of the taste.
To make liqueur, part of the homemade cognac according to the previous recipe is poured into a separate bottle. After that, regular condensed milk is added in an amount of approximately 1/8-1/10 in height (tastes vary here, but everyone likes this proportion). The bottle is tightly sealed and left for a certain number of days, shaking 2-4 times a day. For the condensed milk to completely disperse and the liqueur to become homogeneous, it takes time; for a certain number of days the drink will have layers and this should not be confusing. On the other hand, it cannot be created in a day, even if you shake it continuously. But in the end you will get a product that fully lives up to its name.
