It is better to collect flowers in the first half of June. The greatest amount of smell in them is concentrated in the morning. Therefore, early morning is a good time to collect raw materials.
But picking flowers after rain is not recommended. Firstly, they contain a lot of water. Secondly, the precipitation may not be the most pure. For tinctures, clean and ideally dried petals are needed, but any recipe has its own characteristics that are worth paying attention to.
Regarding the alcohol base. It is best to take vodka or alcohol without any additives. But it must be a high-quality product purchased from a reputable store. Otherwise, the healing tincture can turn into poison.
Tincture "Regular"
This recipe can be called the most common, so it is also suitable for beginners. It is prepared with vodka using dried plants.
The proportions for the production of tincture are as follows:
- Rose petals – 100 gr.
- Vodka – 1 liter.
- Sugar – 2 tbsp. l.
To make a tincture according to the usual recipe, you need to take dried rose petals.
Sugar is painstakingly dissolved in vodka, rose petals are added and stored in a dark, cold room for a month. The tincture has a sweetish taste, but if desired, it can be turned into a liqueur by adding twice as much sugar. And it’s not about the manufacturing technology, but about the components.
- Vodka – 250 ml.
- Sauternes – 500 ml.
- Dried rose petals – 25 g.
- Syrup made from sugar and water in equal proportions - 200 ml.
Petals, vodka and Sauternes are combined in a selected container, covered with a lid and stored in a cold space for 5 days. Later, the tincture is filtered through a sieve or cheesecloth, and sweet syrup is added to taste.
The liquor is bottled and put away for 21 days. After this time, the drink will acquire a catchy taste and smell of roses. It is best to drink it slightly chilled from small glasses.
For the most complex recipe you will need Sauternes wine.
Persian rose liqueur
In Persia, since ancient times, this recipe has been passed down from generation to generation. In our country there are not so few connoisseurs of the drink, since the aging of the liqueur continues for at least a year.
To make rose liqueur you need the following:
- Roses – 30 pieces.
- Sugar – 700 g.
- Water – 500 ml.
- Alcohol – 1 l.
Place petals from 20 roses in a vessel, fill with alcohol and place in a cold room for a month. Once a week, the vessel must be opened and the roses gently stirred.
The remaining roses (petals) must be boiled. To do this, put sugar in a saucepan along with them, add water, cover with a lid and cook over low heat after boiling for about an hour. The purchased syrup is cooled, filtered and stored in a cold space.
After a month, both waters are combined, the resulting consistency is allowed to settle for 12 hours and poured into bottles. The longer the liqueur sits, the better. But 1 year is considered good aging.
Rose petal liqueur with raspberries
It is easy to prepare this liqueur at home. But, it is worth keeping in mind that in this drink the smell of rose will not be “overshadowed” by the smell of raspberries.
Rose petals are combined with raspberries, and then the mixture is poured with alcohol.
But it can be used not only in its pure form, but also for making cocktails:
- Rose petals – 25 g.
- Vodka – 750 ml.
- Raspberries – 250 ml.
- Syrup – 200 ml.
- Orange zest – 1 pc.
Combine rose petals, vodka, zest and raspberries in a large jar. Mix everything and put in a cold space for 4 days. Later, the liquor is filtered and bottled. The shelf life of this drink is 1 year, but it is best to consume it as food no earlier than 2 weeks from the date of production.
Rose tincture with cinnamon
This drink is prepared with vodka, honey and cinnamon.
It turns out less sweet than liqueur, but not the least tasty:
- 4 handfuls of rose petals.
- 500 ml alcohol.
- 250 ml vodka.
- 1 tsp. cinnamon.
- 70 g sugar.
- 500 ml water.
- 2 tbsp. l. honey
Dried rose petals are combined with 1/3 of sugar and vodka. Add cinnamon, honey and alcohol. The jar is closed and stored in a cold space for 10-14 days. After this, add the remaining sugar mixed in water to the tincture, wait another 10 days and filter.
The filtered drink is bottled and left to infuse for 3 months. The shelf life of the tincture is 1 year. It must be consumed chilled in small portions.
Rose petal tincture will get a spicy taste if you add cinnamon to it.

Liqueur "Sauternes Rose"
In the last article, I told you about the unusual dessert wine Sauternes, which is prepared in Bordeaux. So, you can use it to make a cool, fragrant, very, very summer drink with the addition of rose petals, which blend incredibly well with the fruity character of the wine. Sauternes, as you understand, cost incredible amounts of money, but for similar home-made drinks you can use the most ordinary examples, for example, a simple Chateau Liot 2009 (approximately 750 rubles/0.75 l) or Petit Guiraud 2012 (approximately 800 rubles/0, 75l). It still remains to be tested. Sauternes, obviously, can be replaced with other, less premium dessert wines.
- 500 ml Sauternes (approximately 15% alcohol)
- 250 ml vodka or alcohol 40-50%
- 25 g dried rose petals (approximately a half-liter jar)
- 200-250 ml ordinary syrup
Combine Sauternes, vodka and rose petals in a suitable sized jar, stir well. Close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cool place for 3 to 5 days, until the tincture acquires a clear taste and smell of rose. Strain the tincture through a sieve or several layers of gauze, do not squeeze out the solids. If necessary, filter through cotton wool or coffee filters. Add sweet syrup to taste, made from equal parts water and sugar. Pour the finished liqueur into unstained bottles and let it rest for 2-3 weeks. Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled in small glasses. In the summer, you can use Aperol Spritz to make cocktails.
Persian rose liqueur
Recipe from the book “Folk Wines, Cordials and Brandies How to Make Them”, Jagendorf, MA, 1963. According to the creator, this recipe was given to him by the owner of the house where he was staying in Zahedan, Persia (southeast Iran). The creator advises preparing the liqueur at the beginning of June (but you should take into account the hottest Persian climate).
- 20-30 fragrant roses
- 700 ml sugar (by size)
- 500 ml water
- 0.9-1 l of neutral alcohol
Take petals from 10-20 fragrant roses and place them in a suitable sized jar. Pour alcohol over the petals, close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cold place for a month, remembering to stir the contents of the jar 1-2 times a week. Mix sugar, water and 10 more rose petals in a saucepan, cover with a lid and bring to a boil, and then simmer over low heat for about 1 hour. Strain the syrup, cool, strain the tincture. Rose petal liqueur with raspberries
A wonderful ethereal fruit liqueur in which, surprisingly, the rose remains in the background, giving way to the catchy raspberry. An amazing ingredient for making refreshing cocktails. Here, by the way, is one of them: 2 parts liqueur, 1 part sour mix, 4 parts soda, lemon and raspberries for decoration, combine in a shaker (only sour mix and liqueur, add soda into the glass).
- 750 ml vodka or alcohol 40-50%
- 25 g dried rose petals (approximately a half-liter jar)
- 250 ml fresh raspberries (by size)
- zest of 1 tangerine (can be replaced with orange)
- 100-250 ml ordinary syrup
In a suitable sized jar, combine water, rose petals, raspberries and tangerine/orange zest and mix thoroughly. Close the jar tightly and leave it in a dark, cool place for 3 to 5 days. When the liquid acquires a powerful scent and taste of rose, the tincture can be poured through a sieve or several layers of gauze without squeezing out the solids. If necessary, the liquid can be filtered through cotton wool or coffee filters. Add regular sweet syrup to taste and pour the finished drink into clean bottles. Store in a dark, cool place for up to 1 year. Leave for a short 2 weeks before use.
Rose tincture with cinnamon
An ordinary, unique and extremely fragrant tincture. Not as sweet and refined as the above-mentioned liqueurs, but that is why it is even more presentable for a real master of moonshine.
- 4 handfuls of rose petals
- 250 ml vodka
- 500 ml alcohol 95%
- 65 g sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 500 ml unstained water
Mix dry rose petals with 20 g of sugar and vodka in a suitable sized jar. Add alcohol and cinnamon, then close the jar tightly and leave in a dark, cool place for up to 10 days. Shake the jar slightly every day. Dissolve the remaining sugar in water and add to the tincture. Wait another 10 days, strain, do not squeeze. Filter as necessary, pour into clean bottles and leave to rest in a dark place for at least 3 months. The tincture should be drunk from small glasses, slightly chilled. Store for no more than 1 year.
Healing liqueur “Pink Nocino”
Inspired by the famous Nocino - an Italian liqueur made from green walnuts, which are usually harvested around the 20th of June. Interestingly, in Italy, liqueurs made from rose petals are not in the least demand. The hybrid drink has taken root in Poland, where it is intensively used to treat stomach disorders - just drink 30-50 ml of liqueur. Once again, this is not a drink for heavy libations; you need to drink it in small doses and only in suitable forms.
- 2 handfuls of rose petals
- 20-25 green walnuts
- 300 g sugar
- 300 ml alcohol
- 300 ml water
- 2-3 cm cinnamon bark
- zest of 1 lemon
Wash the nuts, cut them in half or pierce them in several places with an awl, and then place them in a jar of a suitable size. Add syrup made from equal parts water and sugar, finely grated lemon zest, cinnamon and rose petals. Pour in alcohol, close the jar tightly and leave in a sunny place for 40-60 days. The contents must be stirred from time to time. After the allotted time has passed, strain the liqueur through several layers of gauze, filter through cotton wool or coffee filters and pour into dark glass bottles. Store in a cool place. Leave for at least 3 months before use.

Homemade cognac from British rose petals “50 stars”
In my search for something to make from rose petals, the best find was cognac made from the petals of yellow and pink varieties of Old English roses. The appearance is not as exotic as that of the William Shakespeare tincture. But the generous play of color and no less generous smell make this drink, which is usually made, exceptional.

For production, a 2 liter glass container with a wide larynx and a ground-in lid and 1 liter of vodka were used. The petals were poured into the jar without tamping so much that the vodka completely covered them. Before pouring, 5-6 pieces of refined sugar were added. This amount of sugar does not give sweetness, but emphasizes the taste. It is better to use cane sugar. The infusion was infused for 7-10 days, after which the tincture was carefully drained (without squeezing! just letting it drain) and a second one was made with fresh petals. After being poured twice, the cognac had the appropriate color and subtle notes of taste and smell. So “50 stars” is not an exaggeration.

For those who love cream liqueurs, this is an opportunity to quickly prepare a wonderful sample of the taste.
To make liqueur, part of the homemade cognac according to the previous recipe is poured into a separate bottle. After that, regular condensed milk is added in an amount of approximately 1/8-1/10 in height (tastes vary here, but everyone likes this proportion). The bottle is tightly sealed and left for a certain number of days, shaking 2-4 times a day. For the condensed milk to completely disperse and the liqueur to become homogeneous, it takes time; for a certain number of days the drink will have layers and this should not be confusing. On the other hand, it cannot be created in a day, even if you shake it continuously. But in the end you will get a product that fully lives up to its name.
