Marinate herring at home: 5 quick methods for gourmets

My husband is a big fan of pickled herring. Especially for him, I constantly cook this fish in a variety of forms. Now I would like to share with you recipes for herring marinated at home: with onions and vinegar, Norwegian style - it will turn out extremely tasty.

  1. Pickled herring with onion and vinegar in a fragrant dressing
  2. Very tasty herring with lemon in a jar
  3. Korean pickled herring
  4. Stunning herring in 2 hours
  5. Herring with onions and carrots in Norwegian style

Pickled herring with onion and vinegar in a fragrant dressing

Homemade pickled herring is many times better than store-bought. My recipe will allow you to cook fish that will amaze you with its taste and smell. It’s perfect to serve this herring with potatoes.

  • one herring;
  • 1-2 pieces of onions;
  • Bay leaf;
  • 3 peas of aromatic pepper;
  • half a teaspoon of sugar;
  • a pinch of dark ground pepper;
  • a tablespoon of six percent vinegar;
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
  • 3 tablespoons of water.

How to cook herring:

  1. Clean the fish from skin, entrails and bones. Cut the purchased two pieces of fillet into slices.
  2. Make the marinade: pour hot water into a small bowl, add dark and aromatic pepper, sugar, vinegar and oil. Stir thoroughly.
  3. Peel the onion and cut it into rings or halves of rings.
  4. Take a clean jar and place onions and fish there in layers. Break the bay leaf into pieces and place in a container.
  5. Pour the marinade over the product, close the lid and let it stand in the refrigerator for about eight hours. During the marinating process, it is better to shake the jar from time to time - this way the fish will be better soaked. After the specified time has passed, the herring can be eaten.

Advice: choose your herring carefully. It does not have to be damaged, covered in stains, and reddish liquid does not have to flow from it.

Very tasty herring with lemon in a jar

Another marinating option is with lemon. The herring comes out extremely tasty, warm, and moderately salty. Be sure to take note of this recipe - it will amuse any gourmet!

  • 400 grams of fresh frozen herring;
  • 2 onions;
  • 4 dark peppercorns;
  • a pair of bay leaves;
  • a third of a lemon;
  • half a teaspoon of salt;
  • a teaspoon of sugar;
  • 200 ml water;
  • a tablespoon of vinegar.
  1. Make the marinade: pour water into a saucepan, add sugar and salt, place bay leaves and peppercorns there. Boil, add vinegar and turn off the stove. Wait for it to cool to room temperature.
  2. Thaw the fish and prepare: cut off the head and tail, remove the entrails, wash and dry, remove the skin from the herring. Remove the seeds.
  3. Cut the fillet into small pieces.
  4. Peel the onion and cut into thin rings. Cut the lemon into small pieces.
  5. Place the fish tenderloin in a clean jar, alternating it with lemon and onion. Pour the marinade over the product, close the container with a lid and place in the refrigerator. Let stand for about 5 hours.

Note: to make it easier to remove the seeds, use tweezers.

Korean pickled herring

Continuing to share with you the methods of making herring marinated at home: with onions and vinegar, in Norwegian and so on, I would especially like to highlight the herring marinated in Korean. The taste is incomparable, it is difficult to describe it in words. Every time I treat my guests to this dish, they leave satisfied!

  • kilogram of herring;
  • 4 onions;
  • half a teaspoon of ground dark pepper;
  • half a teaspoon of reddish pepper;
  • a tablespoon of salt;
  • a tablespoon of tomato paste;
  • 75 ml of nine percent vinegar;
  • half a glass of refined vegetable oil.
  1. Prepare the fish: cut off the head and tail, cut out the belly and clean it. There is no need to remove the skin. Wash the herring and fillet it, removing the bones. Cut into pieces.
  2. Peel and wash the onion. Cut into half rings.
  3. Place the fish tenderloin in the pan, season with salt, black and red pepper, and tomato paste. Stir.
  4. Pour in vinegar. Stir again. If there is caviar, add it. Pour in vegetable oil.
  5. Add onion to the herring and mix again. Place in the refrigerator for 3 hours, although it is best to leave it overnight (that is, in the dark) .

Note: the herring can be replaced with other fish such as mackerel or sardine.

Stunning herring in 2 hours

If guests decide to show up at one point and want to amuse them with something tasty, I have a quick method for pickling herring. You will have to prepare a fairly brutal brine and finely chop the fish.

  • one herring;
  • a pair of onions;
  • a tablespoon of salt;
  • bay leaf and dark pepper to taste;
  • a glass of warm water.

Making frisky herring:

  1. Peel the onion and cut into rings.
  2. Clean the fish, remove any excess and cut into small pieces.
  3. Take a plastic jar and place the onion cut in the bottom. Place the fish on top. Season it with spices. Continue alternating layers, with the onion on top.
  4. Fill the herring with water and cover with a lid. Let it brew for 2 hours. After this you can serve it on the table.

Tip: it is best to cook medium-sized fish using this method.

Herring with onions and carrots in Norwegian style

One day I tried Norwegian herring at a feast and immediately asked for the recipe. The taste and smell cannot be described in words - you will lick your fingers! All my household simply love herring prepared this way.

  • 2 herrings;
  • 200 ml water;
  • 100 g sugar;
  • 100 ml vinegar;
  • one reddish onion;
  • one carrot;
  • 8 peas each of dark and aromatic pepper;
  • a teaspoon of mustard seeds;
  • a couple of bay leaves.
  1. Mix spices with water and bring to a boil. Add vinegar before finishing cooking. Wait for the marinade to cool.
  2. Cut the onions and carrots into cubes. If desired, you can boil the carrots for a minute to soften them.
  3. Cut the herring fillet into small pieces.
  4. Place carrots, onions and fish in layers in a clean jar. Place the bay leaf and pour the marinade over the product.
  5. Place the herring in the refrigerator for a certain number of days so that the fish is properly saturated with the marinade.

Note: in principle, you can try herring after a day, but after 3-4 days its taste will be even more intense.

You see, pickling herring is completely easy. The purchased dish is several times tastier than store-bought options. If some manufacturing nuances remain unclear to you, watch the video. Bon appetit!

Pickled herring

Korean pickled herring

Attention all fish lovers, namely herring. I suggest you look at the time-tested recipe. A recipe from the “simple, but oh-so delicious” category. The good taste of the fish given to us conquers even those who previously avoided herring. My eldest daughter, who “does not respect” herring because of its “bonyness,” devours such fish on both cheeks. The most delicious herring appetizer. By the way, if there is no herring, then other fish will do (mackerel, sardine, herring.). Try it.

Pickled herring with onions and olives

I’ve been making this salad for about eight years now. I don’t remember where the recipe came from, but this appetizer has become my calling card. I didn’t dare cook for a long time. Oh, how wrong I was. It was beyond my strength not to put away this salad bowl alone and somewhere in the corner. A completely unexpected taste! Everything is soaked in the juices of the adjacent pieces, in addition to the marinade. From time to time, part of the salad is left for the next day. And here the following advice is imposed: and the next day, it’s even tastier. Tip 2: take more onions. Taste. remember canned food, or herring in a wine marinade. Well, in general, you need to try it and you either like it or not. The recipe spread to the masses and quickly found its own admirers.

Pickled herring with soy sauce

The very tasty pickled herring with soy sauce was a discovery for me. Well, I really liked it. I recommend to everyone. A beautiful, ordinary, Russian and celebratory appetizer.

Pickled herring “Warm”

A very good recipe - the herring comes out warm, can be stored for a long time (if it survives that long), tasty and fragrant! Let's eat with gusto and enjoyment!

Lightly salted pickled herring

Almost everyone loves herring, I mean it literally. This recipe will help you, because in the store it is either under-salted, with blood (the internal environment of the body) inside, or over-salted, you definitely need to soak it, and you begin to skimp on the spices and seasonings. They don’t report. The only negative is the time - three days. But this is not a barrier, help yourself.

Pickled herring in lemon juice

Norwegian recipe. My favorite pickled herring recipe I've ever tried. For me it is even more priority than salted herring. This is how herring is pickled for a buffet (smörgasbord). Pickled herring occupies a special, privileged position on the Norwegian buffet. Its main difference from the Russian one is that salt is not used in the marinade.

Pickled herring with spices

A very tasty and warm herring. I added spices to taste, the result was an impeccable combination, moderately spicy. You can add your favorite spices, onions or herbs to taste.

Lightly salted pickled herring in tomato sauce

The grill is constantly lit by grown-up boys, but without an aperitif it’s a little boring.;) I always prepare this appetizer in the evening. On the day of a picnic, when the barbecue is not yet ready, you can’t imagine a better and tastier snack to accompany a shot of vodka. Not to mention the fact that this is a favorite snack on any festive table.;) It is so ordinary and delicious that there is always a “fight” at the table for the last piece. What if you use this method to marinate lightly salted mackerel or salmon?

Dutch pickled herring

This is an extremely tasty recipe for pickled herring, which is eaten first as it appears on the table. The herring comes out sweet, tender, juicy. If you try it once, you will create it all the time.

Herring marinated in spicy tomato juice

I really like herring in various marinades, and I collect recipes worthy of attention. This recipe will be needed not only in everyday life, but there is no shame in putting it on the festive table.

Pickled herring . Pickled herring differs from salted herring in that its brine contains a component such as vinegar. Pickled herring cooks faster than pickled herring. A wide variety of vinegar can be used in pickling herring - white, balsamic, apple, grape, ordinary table vinegar...

Usually, to marinate herring at home, the fins, tail, head are cut off from the fish carcass, and the entrails are removed. You can marinate herring as a whole carcass. But such herring will cook faster if it is cut into fillets, removing the backbone and large bones from it.

The herring is marinated in pieces in a marinade that, in addition to vinegar, contains salt, as well as other fragrant spices and seasonings - bay leaf, dark peppercorns, ground pepper, mustard seeds and other ingredients that give a special smell to the fish marinade.

In the marinade for herring, culinary recipes often call for the use of horseradish root, ginger root, vegetable oil; you can find onions, carrots, and other vegetables in recipes.

Pickled herring according to other recipes can be served 3-4 hours after it is prepared.

You can use pickled herring as a separate appetizer; you can also use it in salads and snack dishes. You can serve it with a side dish, for example, mashed potatoes and herbs.

Homemade pickled herring is best stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2-3 days. This is a product that should be prepared in order to serve it, without taking into account its long-term storage.
