There was no doubt about the freshness of our mussels - here they are, just collected from the sea with our own hands.

But even in this case, you need to look closely - the shell of a good living mussel is constantly closed tightly , you cannot open it with your hands.

You can do an additional test in the water by filling the raw delicacy one hundred percent - the alive ones will sink to the bottom, and the empty shells will remain on top.

If you buy, then also pay attention to this sign, even if you buy frozen mussels. It would not be superfluous to smell the product you are purchasing - the smell of seafood is pure and subtle.

How to cook delicious mussels in shells

Before boiling mussels in their shells, frying or baking, it is important to properly prepare the shellfish:

  • we clean all excess from the doors - limescale, aquatic plants, etc.;
  • rinse thoroughly under running water;
  • if a “beard” looks out of the shell, tear it off (if it is inside, then remove it after manufacturing);
  • Once again we carefully inspect it to ensure there are no cracks or chips.
