Quick cookies in a frying pan without sour cream

Baking in a frying pan is a special page in cooking. She is quite popular all over the world. What is the reason for this? In simplicity! These are usually economical desserts, made from affordable goods that are found in bins. Another advantage of this baking is that in just 10-20 minutes you can create such a delicious treat that your family will ask for more! But the main thing that housewives value such recipes for is that the “baked goods” turn out to be very, very tasty!

So I decided to try cooking cookies in a frying pan. I tried it and... fell in love! From the very first try, the cookies (I suspect that these cookies are a relative of the Welsh one; there are some differences, but not significant) came out unexpectedly delicious! Soft, crumbly, sweet. Both children and adults really enjoyed it.

I've baked these cookies many times before. I developed my strategy and figured out the secrets of fluffy and perfectly baked cookies. I want to talk about all this in this article. I’ll also show you how you can vary the basic recipe.

Quick cookies in a frying pan without sour cream

I tried cooking these cookies in the oven. But for me it didn’t turn out so soft and crumbly. The cookies did not rise well in the oven, 2 times less than in the frying pan. This baked goods is perfect for making in a frying pan! And how sweet and pleasant it is for tea! Mmmm….

  • Butter – 100 g
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Sugar – 75 gr
  • Flour – 200 gr
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp.
  • Sweet powder - for decoration. You don't have to sprinkle it with powder, it's optional.

1. Sift the flour together with the baking powder so that the baking powder is moderately distributed in the dough.

2. Add room temperature butter to the flour.

Grind the butter and flour into crumbs. At first I chopped it with a knife. Then knead the butter and flour with your hands until large crumbs appear.

3. Add sugar to the bowl and mix it into the crumbs.

4. Add the egg and knead the dough.

5. Continue kneading the dough on the work surface or in a bowl, as is comfortable for you.

At first it is tiny and does not want to bunch up, but later it becomes fat and plastic. Wrap in a bag and place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

6. Roll out the dough into a layer 3-5mm high.

7. Cut out the blanks with a mold. To make it comfortable to work with the dough, it is worth dusting the table with flour beforehand. I cut out the circles using a cup. From the leftovers I cut triangles. There were 30 small cookies.

8. Heat the frying pan. When it warms up, put butter in it, 10-20 g. Melt the butter. And only after this we begin to fry the preparations. You can fry without it, but with it the most appetizing crust.

9. Fry the pieces on both sides for 2-3 minutes (each side). Let's make the fire small! On my electric stove I set it to mode 2.

They are noticeably rising.

10. Let the finished liver cool slightly. And sprinkle them with sweet powder (optional).

The last point about sweet powder is one hundred percent at your discretion! Well, you can sprinkle it not only with powder, but also with cocoa and instant coffee. You can even create mini-cakes and place a thick dome of thick cream on top of the cookies.

Secrets of making shortbread cookies in a frying pan

Like any other recipe, this one has its own aspects that determine whether the dish will turn out, its appearance and even its taste.

1. In this recipe, baking powder is of great importance. I advise you not to replace it with anything: vinegar and soda will not work at all.

By the way, if you suddenly don’t have baking powder at home, it’s easy to create it without the help of others! And you only need 3 ingredients: soda, citric acid (finely ground) and flour (as a stabilizer). All proportions are on any pack of baking powder or on the Internet!

2. If desired, butter can be melted or, on the contrary, frozen!

Melted butter will naturally be absorbed more easily into the flour, but it will be more difficult to create a crumbly dough. This option helps to knead the dough right away.

But chilled butter can be grated. Then the crumb comes out very simply and quickly. With all this option, as you knead, the butter in the dough melts, and it is most comfortable to work with.

3. Before adding the egg to the dough, the egg should be beaten to combine the white with the yolk. Then the egg will most correctly mix into the dough.

4. After kneading, the dough should be cooled. And this can be created using 2 methods:

A) in the form of a piece of dough.

B) placing the dough on baking parchment. Cover the dough with another sheet of parchment. And roll out the dough between the paper into a layer of suitable thickness. Then put it in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes (or in the freezer for 5-10 minutes). This dough is very easy to cut into pieces.

5. A few words about molding. There are no exact requirements for what Welsh cookies should be. And therefore, there is complete freedom here! You can cut circles with a glass, or use a knife to cut them into squares, diamonds or triangles.

By the way, if you bake not individual cookies, but a layer, and only after frying, cut it into pieces, then it is more convenient to do this with a knife, as a last resort.

6. As for frying, I recommend using butter for the best roasting and perfect crust. You can use vegetable oil (just lightly grease the pan with a brush) or even without oil at all. But the best and most fluffy cookies are made with butter.

The ultimate secret to these cookies! This pastry, like any other shortcrust pastry, can be stored for a long time. But it’s better to store it in the refrigerator or in a dry glass jar with a lid!

Options for cookies without an oven at home

Typically these cookies are made with raisins. But. But this is optional! If desired, you can vary the basic recipe using other methods.

  • Instead of raisins, you can use dried fruits cut into pieces. Just keep in mind that then the finished product will be sweeter! If you do not want very sweet baked goods, you can reduce the amount of sugar. It is better not to add fresh or frozen berries and fruits, otherwise the juice or water of these products will adversely affect the properties of the baked goods.
  • Nuts and seeds will decorate baked goods. All you have to do is dry them first. You don’t have to mix nuts into the dough, but sprinkle them (pieces) on top of the cookie dough. You see, sesame looks very beautiful!
  • These cookies can be made completely unsweetened. Its taste varies from sweet and sweetened, through neutral (no sugar; but later it can be topped with honey or syrup), to salty (!).
  • These cookies are irresistibly delicious with spices like cinnamon, vanilla, ginger and more.
  • If desired, if the cookies are being prepared in large portions, sour cream is added to the dough. Then the cookies will turn out the most tender and fluffy.

A few words about salty pastries. It's worth looking at as an appetizer. And as additives, maybe greens, cottage cheese or grated cheese (insignificant), small pieces of vegetables (finely chopped hot reddish pepper, dill leaves and pieces of yellowish tomato would look great).

I'm waiting for your photo reports! And I’d love to hear in the comments whether you liked this cookie. Remember? You will always be able to share a link to my articles on your social networks!
