How to make coffee with lavender?

The very word “lavender” already has something soothing, sentimental, nostalgic and tender. Lavender is considered the queen of modern aromatherapy, although it has been used for a long time and has a very unusual legend of its origin on earth. Once upon a time, this wonderful flower bloomed in the Garden of Eden, but was expelled together with Eve and Adam, deprived of its own powerful smell... The population of the earth would not have discovered this magic of nature if at one fine moment the Virgin Mary had not hung out her laundry on the lavender bush little Christ. From contact with the Holy Spirit, lavender regained its original characteristics and continues to amuse us with its enchanting and inimitable fragrances.

Lavender is a record-breaking plant for the content of essential oils, which is why it is very necessary in cosmetology, perfumery and medicine. And if you associate lavender only with soap or with bouquets that can be laid out in the closet to prevent moths, now we will try to amaze you and inspire you to culinary aroma exploits!

Edible lavender is by no means new to cooking and its gastronomic uses are quite wide. At the moment, it is very stylish to add lavender to flour products, jams and preserves, when baking meat and in drinks. Maybe that’s why culinary experts came up with the idea of merging the equally attractive coffee taste and smell with the smell of lavender. Step-by-step recipe for making coffee with lavender

Lavender can be added to coffee using 3 methods. Firstly, you can prepare a sweet syrup with lavender and use it as a sweetener. Secondly, grind the dry inflorescences in a coffee grinder with sugar and add to the finished coffee drink to taste. Or you can create coffee without sugar, mix crushed lavender with ground coffee beans and brew coffee with the acquired lavender-coffee consistency.

Lavender loves creamy flavors, so feel free to add cream and milk to your finished coffee - they perfectly soften the slightly tart taste of lavender flowers. Maybe you have already tried raf with lavender syrup or a delicate lavender latte and understand how tasty and fragrant it is...

Grind Arabica or Robusta coffee beans in a coffee grinder or take a ready-made coffee blend. For one serving of coffee drink, usually take 2 tsp. ground coffee.

In a mortar for grinding spices, grind the dry lavender inflorescences until you obtain the smallest structure close to powder.

In a Turk, mix ground coffee and lavender powder per 1 cup from 0.3 to 0.5 tsp. dried flowers. Fill with high quality drinking cool water. If you like sweet coffee, it's time to add sugar to your coffee cup.

Place the Turk with coffee and lavender on the lowest heat. Only at low heat does coffee have the opportunity to preserve the entire bouquet of aromas. Give the contents time to warm up well, so to speak, “seize” and “brew.” Coffee lovers probably know that boiling kills all the taste of the coffee drink, so pay close attention to the condition of the water. When the first bubbles appear on the surface, remove the Turk from the heat! Pour into coffee cups, add milk or cream to your liking.

Raf coffee with lavender

The drink, invented by enthusiasts for a formidable man, has long become a drink for girls, something like a latte.

“Rough coffee is a hot coffee drink made from espresso, vanilla sugar and cream, which are mixed and steamed from an espresso machine in a pitcher.” (With)

Back in 1996, in the Coffee Bean coffee shop, next to the Kuznetsky Most metro station, traditional raf coffee was invented. It so happened that the baristas working at that time, and even the culprit himself, do not remember who was the first to prepare this coffee.

“There was a guest Rafael, he loved having hot cream and sugar immediately added to his espresso. We had free extras for milk and cream. Later, someone beat everything together with a steamer. We gave Rafael this drink for quite a long time, but he paid as for espresso. And at some point this began to irritate the management and the drink was added to the menu. Then we whipped it not in the pitcher, but right away in the cup.” (c) Tatyana Elizarova, barista, taster.

These days there are various versions of this drink. One of them: lavender raf coffee, I suggest preparing it now.

Lavender Rough is a generous drink that differs from its brothers, which have their own espresso base, production technology and individual taste.

Espresso, cream, and vanilla sugar are the ingredients that make up this masterpiece. In a coffee machine, a mixture comes out of them, whipped by a steam vent. The overwhelming majority of coffee recipes, the base of which is espresso, are prepared with each component added separately, and the production of Raf coffee involves initially combining them together. As a result, the drink is provided with unique taste properties and a narrow bouquet of weightless vanilla creamy foam.

Rough was invented in 1996 or 1997 in Moscow.

Birth of a masterpiece

When and where was the recipe for a drink born, the popularity of which is much higher than that of ordinary cappuccino? In the 90s of the last century, a small coffee shop “Coffee Bean” was hidden near the capital’s Kuznetsky Most metro station. It was distinguished by its work in the South American style; foreign guests quite often came in for a cup of espresso or cappuccino. At that difficult time, the owners of the coffee shop never ceased to amaze regulars with the available assortment of invigorating drinks.

After a while, the coffee shop acquired regulars; it was a place for them to spend time conveniently and taste exciting types of coffee. One of these guys, his name was Rafael, who did not like the cappuccino of the local barista, asked him to prepare something exotic and unique for him. This is how the unique Raf coffee appeared, acquired as a result of whipped espresso with cream and vanilla sugar. The guest was ecstatic from the completed order and became a frequent visitor to Coffee Bean. The drink fell in love with Raphael's comrades and colleagues, and soon it received the name raff coffee. What’s amazing is that raf coffee soon captured gourmets not only in Moscow and Russia, its fame spread throughout the world.

Rough coffee in a traditional interpretation

More than 20 years have passed since the creation of the recipe, but, in principle, it has not changed. Although there are countless recipe options.

The classic provides the following ingredients:

  • you will need traditional espresso - 25 ml;
  • you need granulated and vanilla sugar - 5 g of each;
  • low-fat cream in the amount of 100 ml;
  • cinnamon powder in the amount of 1 g.

When starting to prepare traditional raf coffee, you need to brew double espresso and mix the other ingredients indicated above in the pitcher. Then combine everything and beat until you get a fluffy dense foam. Then the drink is poured into the heated cup (you can add a little cinnamon to it).

Lavender raff coffee

This recipe requires all the same ingredients, only the cinnamon should be replaced with lavender flowers, you need to add one spoon. Coffee is prepared in a cezve over low heat. You need to grind the sugar together with the lavender flowers and add everything to the drink, add heated cream, stir and keep on the stove for another two minutes.

To obtain a fluffy foam for coffee, beat it with a blender. The drink should be immediately poured into cups or glasses and served until the beautiful compacted foam settles.

If you brew honey raff coffee, you do not need to add sugar, but honey should be added before the mixture needs to be whipped. A slice of lemon or lime is suitable for decorating the finished coffee.

Rough coffee with a sprig of lavender

Lavender raf coffee is gaining popularity every day. To be on trend, you need to learn how to cook it masterfully.

For one serving you will need:

  • 35 ml. freshly brewed espress;
  • 100 ml. low-fat cream;
  • 5 g sweet sand;
  • 5 g vanilla sugar;
  • ground lavender;
  • sprig of lavender.
  1. Brew a drink, it doesn’t matter what you use, it could be a coffee machine, a French press or a cezve. The last option involves adding sweet sand, vanilla and ground lavender specifically to the Turk.
  2. If the drink was not made in a coffee machine, it should be strained.
  3. Warm the cream in advance using an electric stove or microwave.
  4. Pour cream into the prepared coffee.
  5. Get the desired foam by using a cappuccino maker or mini mixer.
  6. Pour lavender coffee and decorate with a prepared lavender branch.

Citrus fruits in raff coffee

Citrus raf coffee with lavender is prepared a little differently. To the well-known traditional ingredients you need to add a couple of teaspoons of fresh orange nectar. It will be amazing if it is squeezed out specifically at the moment of brewing raf coffee. Place the juice and other ingredients in the pitcher and beat the mixture. When pouring coffee into cups, garnish it with sliced citrus fruit and a pinch of cinnamon powder. The taste of lavender raff coffee is especially special and slightly strong.

The art of serving

You have learned how to brew a drink. But serving it to the table is also an art. When serving coffee to the table, you can use a cup - then the beauty of the design can only be seen on its surface. If coffee is served in a glass goblet, guests will be able to see the beauty of dense, airy foam.

Useful tips

When preparing raf coffee in the kitchen, you need to take into account some subtleties:

  1. Choose low-fat cream; dilute it with boiled water as needed.
  2. You should be careful with the amount of vanilla sugar. The smell of vanilla is very pronounced in drinks compared to baked goods, and an excess of it is not very pleasant.
  3. Several methods for making espresso at home are applicable. Choose a recipe, the development of which will be affordable, and the taste properties will not be affected. This could be a Turkish press or a French press. Don't forget to strain the coffee after brewing it.
  4. It's not difficult to whip up the foam. A blender, a hand blender, or just a whisk will do - if you have strong hands. The appearance of a thick and abundant foam will be a reward for the work.

How to make raf coffee

Individual manufacturing

This is a coffee drink made from espresso, cream and sugar (regular and vanilla). It can be called a coffee-milkshake or dessert, because it is very tasty, sweet, tender, and in some ways resembles creme brulee.

At the moment, raf is served in almost every coffee shop, girls especially adore it for its soft, sweet and gentle taste. The drink appeared relatively recently, in the mid-90s, when coffee culture was just beginning to emerge in Russia. A guest named Rafael came into one of Moscow's thriving coffee shops (Coffee Bean). It was he who later gained popularity because of his own dislike of strong coffee. Rafael asked the barista to prepare something softer than cappuccino, and he mixed espresso with cream in the same proportion as for a latte, and then whipped the drink right in the pitcher. The guest really liked the cocktail, he recommended it to his friends, who began to call it “Raphael’s coffee.” Over time, the name was shortened to “raf coffee.” This is the story.

Raf and cappuccino

It would seem like it contains the same ingredients - espresso and milk, but with coffee drinks it’s not so simple. The differences between cappuccino and raffa are as follows:

usually, heavy cream is added to raf, while in cappuccino - milk up to 3.5% fat content;

cappuccino ingredients (coffee, milk);

raf coffee is even higher in calories: cappuccino has 200 kcal per serving, raf coffee has about 300 kcal;

cappuccino is served in large cups, raf - both in cups and in glass glasses, like a latte.

Making raf coffee: a traditional recipe in a coffee machine

To prepare raf, which was invented by the resourceful barista “Coffee Bean” in the distant 90s, you need a professional coffee machine. To obtain a fairly dense and uniform structure of the drink, an excellent steam supply is needed.

The rest is a small matter. We take excellent medium-roast coffee beans, we recommend using sweet varieties, which best influence the taste of the dessert drink, cream 11%, 1 tsp. regular and the same amount of vanilla sugar.

Prepare a shot of espresso in a coffee machine. About 30-35 ml is needed for a mug of raffa.

Pour cool cream (100 ml) into a pitcher or milk jug and add all the sugar to it. By the way, vanilla sugar can be replaced with a small pinch of vanilla.

Add the espresso to the sweet cream and, using a steam vent, carefully whisk all the ingredients.

Pour the drink into a cup or glass. Ready!

It is better to warm up the coffee utensils before serving.

Raf "Snickers", with honey, with halva, with lavender

A few more delicious recipes for those who love experiments and unusual combinations.

Regular raf, as we learned, is made from espresso, cream and sugar. If you add other products (sometimes the most unusual ones), you get a completely different drink, but the mixture is just as gentle and airy.

Honey raf

Very sweet and very healthy. Simply replace sugar with 1-2 teaspoons of watery honey. Candied honey can be heated to obtain a watery consistency.

Raf "Snickers"

Sounds delicious, don't you agree? To make it, you will need two additional ingredients: peanut butter (1 tbsp) and cane or caramel syrup instead of sugar. Mix all ingredients and beat as usual.

"Raf-raffaello" ("Raf-coconut")

Instead of cream we use coconut milk. Then we do everything according to the traditional recipe. Sprinkle the finished raf with coconut flakes. And voila! The coffee drink with the taste of Raffaello candies is ready.

Lavender raf

And in the end, the most “soothing” and extraordinary recipe. Add 1 tsp to the usual ingredients. crushed dried lavender petals (available at the pharmacy). Mix lavender with sugar and grind in a coffee grinder, then add the powder to the espresso and cream, whisk.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR PREPARATION

Specifically coffee - you can give preference to any variety.
