Krambambula: what is it + 2 recipes at home

Krambambulya is the Belarusian state drink, which contains honey, alcohol and various spices. This is a typical variation of honey tincture.

The name of the alcoholic drink was derived from the world famous liqueur Krambambuli, for the production of which brandy and juniper are used. Such alcohol was created only in a few factories in Gdansk.

Krambambul gained wide popularity in the early 2000s. Now the drink can be seen in bars and restaurants of the CIS countries (the Commonwealth of Independent States is a regional international organization (international treaty) designed to regulate cooperative relations between states that were formerly part of the USSR) , and in Belarus the creation of krambambuli has been established at the industrial level.

Krambambula is a traditional recipe for making - our answer to mulled wine

Krambambula is an alcoholic tincture, originally from Belarus, which contains honey, strong alcohol, herbs and spices. The drink began to be produced in the 18th century in the Principality of Lithuania, which is currently the land of Belarus. And it got its original name from the German liqueur Krambambuli, which was popular at that time. It was made from juniper and brandy. Over time, “Krambambulya” became a common noun; in slang it was used to call various tinctures and liqueurs. Only much later the name was assigned to a strong cocktail of vodka with honey and spices, which was prepared to warm up in the winter. The drink received a sharp boom in popularity after 2000. It began to be served in luxury restaurants in Belarus and throughout the post-Russian region.

Due to the complexity of spices, only people of the highest class could afford such alcohol. Nowadays, any novice distiller can prepare a drink at home according to the classic recipe. The key to a good quality drink is the alcohol used in the recipe. The unique tincture of Krambambul is prepared on the basis of vodka, and good moonshine is also suitable for making. Honey, the second ingredient in the composition, should be taken only natural from proven suppliers, preferably flower honey. As for spices, it is better to use Indian ones; the composition can be changed to suit your own taste.

Crambambula

Probably almost everyone has tried (or at least heard of) such warming alcoholic drinks as mulled wine, grog or punch. but all this came to us from abroad. But the Slavic peoples also have their own ancient, national recipes for spicy drinks.

Such as varenukha, sbiten, zhzhonka, krambambulya - earlier and they were no less popular than today. All of these are iconic drinks that will warm you up and give you comfort, lift your spirits, and some of them will support your immune system.

How to cook krambambula

Ingredients:

  • Vodka – 500 ml
  • Water – 250 ml
  • Honey – 3 tbsp.
  • Cinnamon – 1 pc. wand
  • Cloves – 3 pcs. inflorescences
  • Allspice – 3 pcs. peas
  • Nutmeg – 1 pinch(s), ground or grated
  • Dark pepper – 3 pcs. peas

Manufacturing:

For example, this mysterious, funny “crambambula” - it turns out that it is a Belarusian, fragrant, alcoholic tincture made from vodka, honey and spices.

In the old days, each housewife had her own set of spices for making it. nevertheless, they were previously rare and expensive, they were brought from India - which means they were used according to their availability now.

Therefore, you can always add your favorite spices to a regular recipe (which I’ll show you specifically now), focusing on your preferences and taste - you will have the opportunity to make your own signature Krambambuli recipe.

And for this, first, cloves, aromatic pepper and nutmeg must be crushed in a mortar.

You can, of course, grind it in a coffee grinder, but not completely into dust.

Pour 250 grams of water and vodka into a thick-bottomed saucepan, pour out the crushed spices and a cinnamon stick. Stir a little and put on low heat.

Bring to a boil, and then simmer covered for 10 minutes.

Then remove from the heat. Add the remaining vodka and honey and stir. Cover with a lid and set aside for 5 minutes.

Then strain the tincture through several layers of gauze into a container, adding dark peppercorns to it. Close it tightly and leave it in a cool place for 7-10 days. During this period of time, the drink will infuse and acquire its own unique smell.

Before taking a sample, I would recommend straining again, or better yet (so as not to raise the sediment) carefully pouring it using a straw into a beautiful decanter or bottle. That's it, you can serve.

Krambambula was previously considered almost the best option for a joyful feast, but here the holidays are coming soon and the winter cold is just around the corner. This tincture is pleasantly warming - despite all this, the vodka is not felt at all, and spices and honey add their own unique taste and smell.

26 g each - orange peel, cloves, cremartyr, cinnamon, snow-white ginger, cardamom

Recipe No. 3 Classic
1. Take 1 bottle of vodka.
Pour half and dilute with the same amount of boiled water. Add to the bottle with the remaining vodka:
12 teaspoons nutmeg

Unfortunately, I didn’t cook more than one recipe myself. In my opinion, the 3rd recipe is clear and realistic. Recipes are taken from printed sources.

If you apply a divisor of 10 and the dilution technique of the 3rd recipe (without alcohol extract) to recipes 1 and 2, then in my opinion you get very real krambambuli.

God help you.
